Mayors‘ Concert Band

Schwaz

 „The Mark Brothers“

District of Schwaz/Tyrol

According to the motto “Music knows no bounds and unites people and countries regardless of different philosophies or political opinions”, the Mayors’ Concert Band District of Schwaz was founded in 1995 by District Commissioner Dr. Karl Mark during a mayors’ excursion to Bruxelles.

At the beginning the concert band only had 21 members, all of them Mayors, vice-mayors, municipal officials, employees of public services and other public officials. Today the band consists of 50 members.

Whereas at the beginning the musicians played serenades during official occasions in their townships (birthdays, honors of mayors etc.) their commitment soon extended beyond the District of Schwaz to official events in Austria and finally even beyond our continent.

The orchestra travelled to Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Italy, San Marino, Germany, Turkey, China, South Korea and Russia. All these appearances and Musical journeys are linked to benefit performances respectively to public Events without any commercial aims and earnings or public or private financial support.

Soon performances in the Austrian Radio and as well as in TV in several countries visited followed. One of the highlights definitely was the journey to Rome, where the Mayors’ Concert Band was in charge of the musical entertainment during a public audience of the Holy Father.

The first CD published in 2006 as well as the Jubilee CD edited last year put their focus on pieces of music by composers and arrangers of the District of Schwaz and of Tyrol.

Foundation chairman in 1995 was the former Mayor Franz Rauch from Ramsau / Zillertal, the Musical Director from the very beginning until today is District Commissioner Dr. Karl Mark. Current chairman is Mayor Franz Hauser from Schwendau / Zillertal.
